Free LUFS loudness meter — how it works

Drop any audio file and get broadcast-accurate loudness measurements in seconds. The exact ITU-R BS.1770-4 / EBU R128 algorithm runs in your browser — zero upload, zero cost.

1

Drop your audio

Drag & drop any WAV, MP3, FLAC or M4A file — or paste it straight from your clipboard. Batch mode analyzes whole folders and exports a CSV report.

2

Get exact LUFS readings

Integrated, short-term and momentary LUFS, true peak dBTP, LRA, PLR and PSR — the exact ITU-R BS.1770-4 algorithm, verified at -14.05 LUFS.

3

Hit -14 LUFS

See the exact gain to reach your target, preview the normalized result, and A/B before/after in the browser.

Verified against professional meters

The analyzer is cross-checked against reference tools on a verified test file (HAYDI DÖN.WAV, 2ch 48kHz 16-bit).

One analyzer, every platform target

Spotify, YouTube and TIDAL normalize to -14 LUFS; TikTok, Reels and Shorts sit around -14 to -16 LUFS; broadcast delivery is -23 LUFS (EBU R128) or -24 LUFS (ATSC A/85). Master to the target instead of fighting normalization — louder masters just get turned down.

Loudness FAQ

Quick answers — the full guides are linked below.

What is LUFS?

LUFS (Loudness Units relative to Full Scale) is the standard unit for perceived loudness, defined by ITU-R BS.1770 and EBU R128. Unlike peak meters, LUFS uses K-weighting filters that model human hearing, so two tracks with the same LUFS reading sound equally loud. Streaming platforms use integrated LUFS to normalize playback volume.

What LUFS should I master to for Spotify?

Master to -14 LUFS integrated with a true peak ceiling of -1 dBTP. Spotify, YouTube and TIDAL all normalize to around -14 LUFS — if your track is louder, the platform simply turns it down, and you lose punch for nothing. Our analyzer shows exactly how much gain to apply to hit -14.

Is my audio uploaded to a server?

No. JSM Loudness runs 100% in your browser using the Web Audio API. Your file never leaves your device — there is no upload, no account, and no waiting. This also means unlimited free analysis.

What is true peak (dBTP) and why does it matter?

True peak estimates the real peak of the analog waveform after digital-to-analog conversion, including inter-sample peaks that normal sample-peak meters miss. Codecs like AAC and MP3 can push peaks above 0 dBFS and cause clipping. Keep true peak at or below -1 dBTP for streaming-safe masters.
